19 APRIL 2017 – US President Donald Trump would be as baffled by this headline as would the rest of the United States who don’t follow World Championship Snooker. The ISIS in question are far from militant, but do sponsor the oldest player in this year’s competition and practicing Muslim 47-year-old Rory McLeod.

Nicknamed the ‘Highlander’ – a reference to the 1986 cult sci-fi classic – McLeod who has been a regular on the UK’s professional circuit since 1991 is (at time of publishing) leading World number two, Judd Trump (no relation to the current US President) in the early stages of the 2017 competition. McLeod who has in the past highlighted the issue a ‘few’ Black faces on the professional circuit is a 1,000/1 outsider to win the tournament but proves to be stunning the audiences and silencing the pundits.

The Betfred World Championship Snooker 2017 competition continues at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield, until 01 May.
